Throwback Thursday: The 1975

Kim Bates

It’s Thursday once again, the weekend is nearly upon us! This week we’re looking back to February 2013 when The 1975 were in town. It was only a few weeks before that ex-head of music Emma Snook, also presenter of Cam FM’s New Music Fridays, introduced me to the band and their track ‘Chocolate’ which I instantly fell in love with. With a little bit of magic, I was able to bag Cam FM some tickets and have a chat with the guys.

The interview was a very chilled one with Matty, however on stage the energy of the band was something else; they sounded nearly exactly the same as they do on their EP which is difficult to do live. A sold out show, with a barrier at the Portland Arms was a new one for me. I left the venue feeling very satisfied with the evenings entertainment. I reviewed the show on my blog and wrote this,

‘Speaking to Cam FM's New Music Friday presenter, Emma Snook, she thinks that The 1975 will be massive this summer so watch out for them! Since the interview things have really kicked off for the guys so watch out for them!’

Emma certainly wasn’t wrong! About a week after interviewing Matty, Zane Lowe picked the band up and they were all over Radio 1! Shortly after they were featuring on posters for huge summer festivals, supporting bands like Muse and quickly progressing to their own tours which covered all over the UK.

The 1975 are still going strong! Let’s finish up this throwback with a listen to the interview: https://soundcloud.com/kimi_mai/the-1975-interview

1994 was a good year

20 years ago I was born, let's have a look at what was released that year.

Remember Sheryl Crow?

Or The Counting Crows?
