Eric Merchant stepped in front of a train three months ago. Dean and Lena, his parents, are still grieving when their doorbell rings and an old classmate of Eric’s walks in. But Sam Woodburn is not here to reminisce: he has an outrageous proposal to make. He offers one hundred thousand pounds for the right to desecrate the grave of Eric, who bullied him at school. The eye-popping proposal drives a wedge between the already strained spouses, with rising tension; Sam basks in the ensuing chaos. Old fault lines and old grudges, contracts proposed and covenants tormented, avarice battling affection and malice fighting humanity: four characters step into uncharted waters they can barely escape in this demonically dark domestic tragedy.
